Get Involved, Spread the Word - Become a Blogger for Human Rights

bloghum bloghumb

Human Rights Watch has been committed to upholding the right to free expression since its beginnings in the 1970s. The Internet, and blogs in particular, have made it easier for people to express themselves to a potential audience of millions. They have also created an enormous opportunity for disseminating information about, and ending, human rights abuses around the world.

If you are a blogger, you can use your bully pulpit to stand with the victims and activists to prevent discrimination, uphold political freedom, protect people from inhumane treatment in wartime, and campaign to bring offenders to justice. You can expose human rights violations and hold abusers accountable. You can challenge governments and those who hold power to end abusive practices and respect international human rights law.

We can help you. Human Rights Watch offers dozens of RSS feeds on pressing human rights issues, classified according to theme and region. We also offer a host of free e-mail newsletters in several languages. If you find this helpful, show your support for the cause of human rights for all. Display one of the following buttons on your blog and link back to http://www.hrw.org. Please also spread the word about human rights abuses by tagging your posts as related to human rights.

Fakten zu europäischen Blogosphere

Loic Le Meur sammelt Facts zur Europäischen Blogosphere in einem Wiki:

This is quite an ambitious title, I am trying to gather the key facts and best cases in Europe on one page and I know how much I don't know, so I'll start but I would really appreciate if you could all help me get as comprehensive as possible. Feel free to edit this page as much as you like. Thanks !

Private bloggers must register the full identity of the person responsible for the sites, the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry (MII) said.

Commercial publishers and advertisers can face fines of up to one million yuan (£66,000) if they fail to register.

Apropos Quality-Content: Weblog Empire - The Worlds Newest Weblog Network Launches

Pressemitteilung:
The worldest newest weblog network Weblog Empire has officially launched today, bringing together a number of previously separate blogs, and launching a new blog, into a new network that aims to make quality content easier to find.

*quality content easier to find* huuu?

Weblog Empire, the brainchild of Western Australian blogger Duncan Riley, the editor of the leading blogging news site The Blog Herald, leverages years of experience in internet design and marketing, in an attempt to provide a superior product that meets growing consumer demand for quality content in a crowded marketplace.

“With some 60 million blogs out there, it’s becoming more and more difficult to find quality content in the blogosphere” said Mr Riley.

Weblog Empire aims at bringing together existing sites, as well as introducing new sites that provide quality information and content for the enjoyment of the average consumer and blog reader”.

“The network will develop a number of new sites that are targeted not only to heavy computer users and bloggers, but also to the average user who may otherwise not be familiar with blogs”.

The network launches with five blogs: WEITERLESEN

Blogging, Spam, and the Taxation of Internet Transaction by Richard Posner

Richard Posner im Becker-Posner Blog:

I think this “exemption” of blogging from the ethical standards applicable to the mainstream media makes good economic sense because of economic and technological differences between those media and the “blogosphere.”

Blogging--A Response by Posner to a Comment:
I want to respond to a single comment because it reflects interesting misunderstandings of the blogging phenomenon. The comment takes Becker and me to task for not responding to all the comments (on our postings) that are criticial of us. By thus not responding, we are said by the commenter to be shutting off debate.

We are not shutting off debate, and this for three reasons.
