Blogs are getting a lot of attention these days. You can no longer safely assume that people in your offline life won't find out about your blog, if you ever could. New RSS tools and services mean that it's even easier than ever search and aggregate blog entries. As long as you blog anonymously and in a work-safe way, what you say online is far less likely to come back to hurt you.

Reporter ohne Grenzen ruft Internetnutzer zur Wahl von Weblogs auf, die sich besonders für eine freie Meinungsäußerung einsetzen. Es stehen 60 Internetseiten zur Auswahl; gestimmt werden kann bis zum 1. Juni in den sechs Kategorien "Afrika und Naher Osten", "Amerikanischer Kontinent", "Asien", "Europa", "Iran" und "International". Die Bekanntgabe der Preisträger erfolgt Mitte Juni.

Es gibt die Liste der Weblogs online und auch die Nominierungs-Kriterien.

Für die stark ausgedünnten Zeitungsredaktionen sind Aufwand und Kosten zu groß geworden, einen Journalisten für die Berichterstattung über die Premiere einer Kleinkunstbühne loszuschicken. Nicht so für einen Wikinews-Autor, der sowieso die Aufführung besucht und Lust hat, über das, was er sieht, zu schreiben. Allen kulturpessimistischen Stimmen und Pisa zum Trotz: Das Internet führt nicht zur Auflösung der Wortkultur. Im Gegenteil: Es beflügelt den schriftlichen Meinungsaustausch. Ein Stück weit ist die Utopie der New Economy wahr geworden: mit dem Internet einen Kommunikationsraum zu schaffen, der Menschen verbindet und den freien Meinungsaustausch fördert.

Wie der Google-Mitbegründer Larry Page bekannt gab, wird der weiterhin im Beta-Test befindliche Dienst Google Video in den nächsten Tagen mit einer Upload-Funktion für Videos versehen. Damit will Google eine Video-Blogging-Möglichkeit anbieten und die Akzeptanz eines solchen Angebots testen.

Skype was created as a no-cost long-distance phone service. It does that very well. What it also allows you to do, if you're just a little technically-minded and have a homebrew gene or two, is to record your Skype phone conversation, with the other person's permission, to an audio file on a second computer. Once you've recorded the audio, you can edit out the uhms, ahs and pauses, compress the audio and then place it on the web for public consumption.

Pew Internet & American Live Project haben eine weitere Studie veröffentlicht. Diesmal zum Thema PodCasting. Mit erstaunlichen Zahlen, welche vielerorts angezweifelt werden:

More than 22 million American adults own iPods or MP3 players and 29% of them have downloaded podcasts from the Web so that they could listen to audio files at a time of their choosing. That amounts to more than 6 million adults who have tried this new feature that allows internet “broadcasts” to be downloaded onto their portable listening device.
