"They’re laughing at us. Did you know that?

Right now, someone who refers to himself as an “Internet marketer” is sitting in his bedroom, dressed in nothing but his undies, laughing at how hard bloggers work for how little money we make.
We drive ourselves to creative exhaustion by expecting ourselves to pump out a never-ending stream of remarkable content — a stream that, even in the best of cases, only pulls in a couple hundred bucks a month in advertising revenue.

And the guy in his undies? He’s one of the thousands or even tens of thousands of people making six figures online every year. Sure, he worked hard in the beginning, but not anymore. Now he’s connected and focused on growing revenue, not creating an endless supply of free content.

Compare that story to that of most bloggers, and you have to laugh. To say we are overworked and underpaid is an understatement. The guy in his undies thinks this is especially funny, and justifiably so. He’s only half as smart as you, but he’s making 10 times more money. So he laughs, not just at you, but at all bloggers. All bloggers, that is, except a tiny handful that have figured out something that makes them wealthy ..."

Die Bundespolitik und die Miss-Schweiz-Wahlen können gewiss etwas voneinander lernen. So übernahmen die Miss-Schweiz-Wahlen den tieferen Sinn des politischen Rotationsprinzips: Nachdem Kritik laut wurde, dass mehrere Jahre hinweg stets blonde Deutschschweizerinnen gekürt wurden, folgte der Zürcherin Hefti die Waadtländerin Gilliéron und dieser die Tessinerin Rigozzi. In der engsten Auswahl für die Miss 2008 standen auch wieder eine Tessinerin, eine Zürcherin und eine Romande. Diese Berücksichtigung aller Landesteile lernten die Wähler der Miss Schweiz von der Politik.

Umgekehrt kann vielleicht auch die Politik etwas von den Miss Schweiz Wahlen lernen:
Noch nie ist eine Ex-Miss-Schweiz nochmals zur Wahl angetreten.

"Der Beitrag im Blog wird relativ rasch geschrieben. Wenn er Schreib- oder Tippfehler aufweist, stört das niemanden. Das Ganze ist ja wie eine öffentliche Versammlung, aber nicht im Restaurant Löwen, sondern im Internet. Die Sprache folgt dieser Spontaneität. Auf den Inhalt mag sich das deswegen auswirken, weil manches nicht hundertfach abgesichert ist, wie bei sonstige Bundesratssaussagen und weil die persönlichen Färbungen einen viel grösseren Spielraum geniessen. Im Gegensatz zu einem Text (Zeitungsartikel zum Beispiel) oder einer Rede (Jubiläumsrede, ohne Diskussion zum Beispiel) ist das diskursive Element im Blog sehr viel stärker. Ich habe Rückmeldungen, kritische Einwände, alle können sich melden. Das gibt es kaum in einer anderen Kommunikationsform."

Bern, 27.03.2008 - Das Bundesamt für Veterinärwesen hat heute ein Blog gestartet, das BVET-Blog. Der erste Beitrag geht der Frage nach, weshalb die Vogelgrippe heute anders wahrgenommen wird. Mit dieser "Online-Zeitung" hofft das BVET seine Standpunkte und Überlegungen klarer und direkter zu kommunizieren und damit zur Diskussion zu stellen. Das Blog ist ein Versuch, dessen Wirkung das BVET nach einem halben Jahr prüfen wird.

Aggressive Hunde, der Schutz von Tieren, die Vogelgrippe - Themen rund um das Tier lösen vielfach heftige Reaktionen aus. In derart emotionalen Debatten müssen Absichten und Meinungen klar kommuniziert werden können. Mit sämtlichen bisherigen Kommunikationsmitteln - Internet, Drucksachen, Medienmitteilungen - kann das BVET gut eine Sachlage darstellen, jedoch kaum seine Meinungen, Überlegungen und Ziele klären und Informationen von Dritten einbringen. Dies geschieht ab sofort im Blog, das das BVET als Kommentarspalte im ansonsten sachlichen Webauftritt versteht.

Die Blogbeiträge werden unregelmässig veröffentlicht. Leserinnen und Leser können die Beiträge abonnieren und auf einen Beitrag oder abgegebenen Kommentar reagieren. Das BVET-Blog wird auf deutsch und französisch geführt.

So, as well as trying to keep abreast of all the breaking news, getting it on air quickly and accurately, attempting to keep the presenters at least vaguely informed of what might be coming at them next, talking to our correspondents and guests, nagging (should that be "encouraging"?) my hyperactive production team etc etc etc, I will be having a stab at writing a blog at the same time.
