Zeitungen, das Internet und die Kannibalisierung
Interessante Studie von Matthew Gentzkow (University of Chicago) zu Online- und Print-Publikationen:
University of Chicago economist Matthew Gentzkow has analyzed the competition between online and print newspapers, using The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com as examples. He finds that the online paper reduces print readership by 30,000 per day and print profit by $5.7 million per year.
But, he says, "barring dramatic changes in tastes or technology, online news does not appear to threaten the survival of print media.... the welfare beneits of the online newspaper appear to outweigh its costs. Consumers gain $42 million a year from free provision of the online paper, and although the arm appeared
to suffer a net loss during the 2000-2003 period, an improved advertising market means that the current annual effect on firm products is probably positive." (Quelle: Cyberjournalist.net )
