Eine Zeit, in der «Daten» in Massen an Menschen herangetragen werden, braucht mehr, nicht weniger lehrergelenkten Unterricht. Massen von «Daten», welche nicht zu sinnvollen Fragen passen, wirken in ihrer Sinnentleertheit bedrohlich: Wer nichts versteht, will schnell einmal überhaupt nichts mehr «wissen»; und was dann entsteht, ist keine «Wissensgesellschaft», sondern eine Gesellschaft, die sich um nichts mehr kümmert und die Welt mit primitiven Methoden zu bewältigen versucht (Anzeichen dafür gibt es) . . .

Die Diskussion ist bei Weitem nicht neu und wurde kürzlich auch von Moe im Bildungsblog mehrfach aufgenommen. (Aber auch hier und hier - um nur einige zu erwähnen) Wie sieht es mit Weblogs in "akademischem Umfeld aus?

Mark Glaser (ojr) schreibt:

Are Weblogs a passing fad or a revolutionary new form of communication and publishing? That's still an open question, but the presence of blogs in the academic environment makes it more likely that they'll survive and thrive in the long term.
Besonders interessant allerdings sind die verschiedenen Statements als Antwort auf die Frage: online Journalism Review: When did you first discover Weblogs and describe your "A-ha!" moment when you realized they might change social discourse.

Alex Halavais: The discovery happened over time -- I'm still not completely sure I know what a blog is! I had updated my own Web site periodically (generally monthly) by hand, from about 1998 on. In a course I was teaching in 1999 at the University of Washington, I realized I didn't want a threaded discussion, I wanted chronologically organized topics with a way to respond, and so I wrote a piece of blogging software that would allow for this interaction. The students -- once they got used to it -- reacted very favorably.

The concept of blogging is new to me, although I'm intrigued! From what I can tell, this seems like quite a relazing, open forum for people to learn about others' ideas and interests. I like the idea of doing "whole-class bloggs," in which students can read each others comments, and add some of their own as well. It would also be great to have students keep track of blogging pages that are constantly being updating with info on a topic the class is studying... Surely, this tool could be used in a number of ways in a classroom.Alyssa Munski

One of the areas of focus at BloggerCon will be weblogs in education. So we've got a couple of people lined up who are scholars who use weblogs with excellence. No announcements yet, but they're great people.

Now I want to balance that with a couple of educators who have successfully created a network of weblogs in a school, school district, college, university. I'm looking for people who support people who use weblogs, in a context that is not about weblogs, if possible.

My goal of course is to learn from them, and then figure out what the next steps are. What do they need from other educators. What software is missing?

We've already got some famous universities, I want to get connected with some not-so-famous universities. Who is leading in use of weblogs in education? Who do you look to for insight and inspiration? That's who I want for BloggerCon.
