"Net Evaders", "Net Dropouts und "Truly Disconnected".... eine neue Pew-Internet-Studie The Ever-Shifting Internet Population:
A new look at Internet access and the digital divide zeigt,dass offline nicht gleich offline ist ....

Although 42% of Americans report they don't go online, a new study by the Pew Internet & American Life Project shows that many of those people in fact have an indirect contact with the Internet:

The survey of 3,553 Americans found that of those classifying themselves as non-Internet users, 20% were in fact "Net Evaders"who use the Net vicariously through friends or family to send messages or do searches, and 17% are "Net Dropouts" who used to use the Internet until ISP or hardware problems ran them off.

Just 24% of Americans could therefore be classified as being truly disconnected. Staying online has also been a bumpy road for many, the report found, with many reporting stops and starts to their online life, due to various life changes and economic difficulties. [Via: onlinejournalism.com ]
